In 2022, 532 children were interviewed at the Children’s Justice Center of Oʻahu for allegations of sexual abuse, physical abuse, sex trafficking, and witnesses to violent crime.
Friends provides essential support to these children through our Hoʻōla Nā Manaʻo program. The HNM program provides children with basic needs such as beds, clothing and groceries, as well as quality of life enhancements like music lessons/instruments, sports, hobbies, school needs, holiday gifts, and so much more.
Through this support, we strive to help child victims, become simply a child once more.
In 2022, Friends provided direct assistance to over 800 children on Oahu through our HNM program and assisted hundreds more through our support to the Children’s Justice Center and the children they serve.
Donations are imperative to us continuing our good work for Oahu’s Keiki.

- In Hawai’i, more than 50 percent of reported victims of crime are children 0-17 years old.
- Research shows that one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually assaulted by the time they are 18 years old.
- Every year hundreds of children come through the Children’s Justice Center of Oʻahu to tell professionals their story of sexual abuse, physical abuse, sex trafficking, or witnessing a violent crime.
- Once abuse is reported, these specially trained and caring professionals – police, social workers, prosecutors and more – initiate a coordinated and collaborative response dedicated to helping child victims and their families.
